Some images of the Corporation Year 2023 to 2024

MOWING THE COASTAL PATH APRIL TO OCTOBER

Mowing the part of the Wales Coast Path between St Clears and Laugharne is done several times a year by Corporation volunteers.  In this photo: Ald. Matthew Thomas, Derek John, Peter Hill, David Griffith, Adam Fox, Jeff Downes (Foreman of the Jury), Anthony James (Portreeve)

80TH D DAY COMMEMORATIONS JUNE 6th

Many burgesses have served with the Armed Forces over the years and the Corporation was pleased to fly a special commemorative flag on the anniversary of D day as a mark of respect and gratitude not just to the burgesses but to all involved in the fight to maintain freedom

DONATIONS
During the year the Corporation receives requests for financial assistance from many organisations and is happy to contribute where possible to those organisations of benefit to the people of the Township

CRICKET!

On a late summer's evening the Portreeve's 11 took on a team from Laugharne Cricket Club.  It was more noted for the sociable nature than any startling skills with bat and ball!  The Portreeve's 11 won a remarkable second place!

MAINTAINING THE TOWN HALL

The Town Hall is one of the most recognisable landmarks in the Township. It is an historic listed building and is the responsibility of the Portreeve during his time in office.  This year it was treated to a wash and brush up to remove algae from the walls.  The work was carried out by Corporation volunteers - but even the Portreeve was on hand to wash his own Town Hall

OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE NEW

At the end of the Corporation year on the first Monday following the Feast of St Michael (September 29th) Big Court is held when the new Portreeve is appointed.  On the next Sunday the Portreeve hosts a celebratory breakfast followed by Divine Service in St Martin's Church where he reaffirms his oath of office in a service conducted by the Portreeve's Chaplain.  The final act is to return to the door of the Town Hall before dispersing and celebrating in the local hostelries
